Do your Marketing Strategies make your Business Stand out from the Crowd?
When developing your marketing strategies for your business, you must think of more than just telling the public what you sell and why anyone should want it. Today’s consumers are faced with many choices for anything they want to buy or for any service they need. In order to capture their attention and keep it, your marketing strategies must be different than your competitors. Doing the same thing as everyone else used to be expected, but following that strategy now will make sure your business is lost in the shuffle.
The difference between a mildly successful business and a wildly successful one can be as simple as a shift in marketing strategies. However, this shift must be radical—simply creating a great television commercial or email campaign may boost sales temporarily, but will not necessarily send them through the roof. Marketers must find new avenues and new forms for their messages. 2008 Presidential nominee candidate Mike Huckabee found great success by creating campaign commercials that were so funny they spread virally on YouTube, giving him free advertising that everyone was talking about. Although it did not garner him the nomination, it was a good start and gave him more attention than he probably would have received otherwise.
Become a Maven to Bolster your Marketing Strategies
When looking for the right company to make a purchase from, consumers want some help in making their decision. If one company stands out from the rest, whether through marketing strategies or through offering something unique the competitors do not, the consumer will have an easier time making their choice. One thing that can make your company stand out is to become a maven for the industry: be the Go To Guy who has all the answers. If you are viewed as being the most knowledgeable among your competitors and as one who freely shares that knowledge, customers will feel comfortable with you and will be more likely to gravitate toward you when they are ready to make their purchase. Customers do not want a hard sell—they want factual information that will help them make their own choice.
So, how do you become a maven and incorporate that into your market strategies? First of all, you need to actually have the knowledge. Be an expert. Do your research and learn as much about your product, the alternatives, and your competitors as you can. Secondly, share that knowledge. Blogs are becoming very popular for businesses. Posting a small tidbit for your customers (with good key phrases included so potential customers can find you, of course) every day will forge a relationship between you and them. They will trust you because you are so forthcoming with your knowledge, and they will want to reward you with their business. Word of mouth is one of the most valuable marketing strategies out there, and highly satisfied customers who trust you will refer their friends to you.
